Popular Spots to Visit while Sailing in Martinique

The Island

The Island

Martinique is one of the most beautiful Caribbean islands, situated south of Dominica and north of St. Lucia. It is an overseas region of France. Martinique is the island of the „never-ending summer“. Trade winds from the northeast and east provide a steady breeze that constantly refreshes the air. The best way to explore Martinique is by sailing. It is one of the leading destinations for European vacationers, which offers gorgeous beaches, great food and a variety of accomodation. The capital of the island is Fort-de-France with its yacht-filled harbour. What is wine in France, rum is in Martinique. It is called „The Rum Capital of the World“. Local restaurants offer seafood specialties, like langouste (Caribbean lobster), soudons (clams) and cribiches (freshwater crayfish).

Sainte Anne

Sainte Anne

Sainte Anne is one of the largest and most popular anchorages on the island, protected by the southeastern peninsula of Martinique.

It is the access point to all the white sand beaches of the south. The beaches of the peninsula of Sainte Anne embody all the idyllic attributes of Martinique – crystal blue sea, white sandy beach, palm trees and fantastic sunsets. The most popular one is Les Salines. It is considered to be the most beautiful beach on the island where on the horizon you can see the nearby island of St. Lucia.

Pointe des Salines is a beach where the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean meet, creating dangerous rips, so you need to be careful of the current there.
